Community Grant Spotlight: St. Martin’s Healthcare

Getting to a medical or dental appointment isn’t always simple. For some residents, it can mean traveling miles just to receive care. For others, finding a provider who accepts Medicaid can be a challenge.

St. Martin’s Healthcare, Inc. is working to change that.

Through support from the Community Foundation DeKalb County, St. Martin’s Healthcare previously launched a mobile clinic in 2023 to bring healthcare services directly into the community, reducing barriers caused by lack of transportation and improving access to care.

That effort has continued to grow. Additional support provided in 2025 helped expand services to include dental care on the mobile clinic, allowing more patients to receive both medical and dental services closer to home.

By bringing services directly to patients, the mobile clinic helps reduce missed appointments and connects individuals with care in a more accessible way. For many patients, St. Martin’s Healthcare serves as their dental home, providing consistent, reliable care when other options may be limited.

Since launching, St. Martin’s Healthcare has had 15 mobile dental visits in DeKalb County.

St. Martin’s Healthcare is also working to reach younger patients by partnering with Head Start programs, helping connect children with needed dental screenings early on.

These efforts go beyond routine care. Expanding access to medical and dental services helps prevent more serious health issues, reduces missed school and work, and supports overall well-being.

For 30 years, the Community Foundation has partnered with organizations serving DeKalb County to support projects and programs that strengthen our community.

This story is part of our 30 Years, 30 Stories series, highlighting the people, partnerships, and projects shaping DeKalb County.
